Drowning Doesn't Seem To Be Nearly A Fun As People Make It Out To Be

I have noticed a strong theme in my artwork that doesn't seem to fade away. No matter what I always find myself returning to water.  Many of my pieces involve swimming, bathing or drowning. Even throughout my sketchbook this is a common theme.

"Sitting On the Dock bay watching the tide roll away. I've got nothing to live for and looks like nothings gonna come my way"

 I am not sure if it has to do with the fact I am a water sign or if its because anxiety and depression make me feel as though I am constantly drowning. Maybe  its the song I'm named after Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) by the Looking Glass or a combination of all three. Who knows.  If I had to choose I would probably lean towards the anxiety and depression constantly giving the illusion of slowly suffocating to death. However I love water. I used to go swimming all of the time with my father and brother. I would splash, swim, play.... My absolute favorite thing to do was float. It was the most serene experience. The feeling of the water embracing my body, while gently lifting me up and guiding me to somewhere where none of my troubles could find me. I could stay in the water all day just floating.

For those of you who have not heard Brandy by The Looking Glass go do it! For right now I will give you a short overview of the song. There is this girl named Brandy who is FINE.  She is a hard working waitress in a harbor town and all the sailors say how they would love to marry her. She wants nothing to do with any of them because her heart belongs to another. Her love however is never around because his true love is the sea.  The song has a beautiful tune and sounds cheery when in reality is somewhat depressing. Its like a metaphor for my life I walk around with a smile on my face when in reality I'm sad and yearning for love... but like Brandy in the song I am alone looking for love that is never around. Pissog Is Gossip Spelled Backwards

"Pissog is Gossip Backwards" is one of the first mono prints I have ever made. Being the print noob that I was, I forgot that it would print the mirror image of what I wrote. Thus Pissog was born! It was a happy accident.  At the time I was in college at Rock Valley and gossip was  everywhere I looked. I personally use art to let go of things weighing me down. All of the unnecessary drama, gossip, and backstabbing  can become overwhelming at times. My art teacher Matt Vincent told me it was like I created a new swear word: Anyone coming near me with Gossip can PISSOG!
